Many thanks to Mary’s mom for buying us our charter. It came in yesterday’s mail and it is sitting on Mary’s desk waiting for the boxes I was gifted to be finished in a boy scout’s Eagle project. Mary added the library to the map on littlefreelibrary.org and we should be showing up there soon.
It’s been quite an eventful week. Over the past week we have been gifted two buildings. A generous donor had these two buildings that his son and his son’s friend started to try to build their own Little Free Library and I guess lost interest before it was completed and installed. I’m very grateful that these buildings were available. This gift came with additional wood to complete the buildings and several boxes of books with which to work on stocking them. But… they are going to need to be finished.
Enter Boy Scout Eagle project. Sunday Mary met with the scout and the leader and discussed the scope and expectations of the project. I’m not sure how soon the buildings will be added, but from the sound of it, it will be in the very near future. Mary will have to contact the utility companies to find out where there might be lines to contend with and then we will have two shiny red new buildings in which books will happily live.
More book donations have been coming in. We will have books to stock both the adult library and the children’s library once these buildings are in. Right now we have significantly more adult books than children’s books but do have enough for a while. Mary is working on book shelves to store them on until they can be cycled into the libraries proper.
This week has found Mary learning that there are people from where she works that live in the neighborhood. She didn’t realize that she lived so closely with people from her work and it was a delightful surprise when she saw that the woman she works with donated books, lives just a couple blocks away and ironically enough is also a member of the women’s club at work. It certainly is a small world. One of the books she left reminded Mary that she needed to add some dog treats to the library in case there are pups who come to visit. Once the wooden buildings are up, Mary is going to add a dog leash tie to the pole so people don’t have to hold leashes when they are looking.
More people are stopping by to visit me and it makes me smile. Right now there are mostly children’s books inside my newspaper box and several families have stopped by on walks or on bikes to visit. I feel like I am fulfilling my purpose when someone finds something they can take with them to enjoy.
So here we are… another week in the ‘books’ shall we say. Everything is happening and everything is starting to serve its purpose.
Have a delightful day. The weather is going to be beautiful today. Don’t forget, in a world where you can be anything… the best thing to be is kind to one another.
Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.
